hi whats up my name is Angeli this is my remaining reflection on the "dear America" book. Well, the time of this book is during the Civil War. In the family that this girl lived in, they had to give food and domestic animals to the confederate Army. Even though she wasn't educated she still went to church. These people ate the leftovers from their masters foods. She learned to read and write secretly. Whenever she found time she started to read and write secretly. She made candles from beef fat to read and write in the dark. She didn't get clothes so she made homespun dresses. Well after the civil war ended she was free and moved to New York and got married then she began to teach kids who were less fortunate and were African American who didn't learn to read. After a couple of years she died.
Commentary:
Well, this book taught a lot to me because it showed me how hard life was back then. It also showed me how easy my life is. I now understand that i should be grateful for what i have and that i shouldn't take things for grateful in my life.
